West Lafayette, IN (October 2007) – Join the Mirage Belly Dancers as they perform their semi-annual fall show, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, November 18 in Fowler Hall on the Purdue University Campus. This attempt to expose the West Lafayette community to the mesmerizing art of belly dance is a must-see performance. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $4 with Purdue ID or $5 for general admission. A special group rate is also available for groups of 10 or more for $3 per person.
The performance offers a variety of talent for your enjoyment. The featured performances include: American cabaret, veil dancing, floor dancing, tribal and hip hop fusion dancing, drum solos and even a sword swallower. There will also be a guest performance by the Indian Student Association.
The event is being coordinated by the Mirage Belly Dancers themselves as they do every show.
All of the money raised by the event will be put towards supporting the club as well as help to orchestrate future performances.
The club was started by a few Purdue students in August of 2004. Since then, the club has grown substantially. They are an instructional and performance group primarily focused on performing at different events on the Purdue campus such as the Purdue International Festival along with belly dancing workshops. They also perform at off-campus events and are always looking for new talent.
The experience levels of the dancers range from beginner to advance. Classes are held various nights of the week. The level of experience depends on the day practice is held. Call-outs for the Purdue club are held at the beginning of each semester.
